CARRASCO & MATEOS - "SOMEBODY THERE" (ALGUIEN AHÍ) 25 November 2010 to 15 January 2011
Carrasco & Mateos is a new collective project developed by Ramón Mateos and Nuria Carrasco.
Under the title "Somebody there" (Alguien ahí), Carrasco & Mateos have made a number of videos that reflect the exact place of several illegal pits in which bodies of victims of the Francoist era that have not been exhumed are still buried. It seems as if time was the only thing moving forward in these videos, hardly anything moves and only a faint sound makes us realise that time has not stopped. Today, 1,821 of the 2,052 mass graves documented so far remain unopened.
Nuria Carrasco and Ramón Mateos join forces in this project, which follows a line of investigation that has been present in the works of both artists for some time, raising questions that revolve around the concept of identity, but always remaining a mixture between art and reality. It is an artistic model that reflects and adopts strategies that come from other areas of thinking and action, bringing them to the field of artistic creation.
