LOST AND FOUND (OBJETOS PERDIDOS)
Hisae Ikenaga Exhibition (22 April - 31 May 2008)
The artist Hisae Ikenaga (Mexico City 1977) presents her work for the first time at a gallery in Madrid, having already done so at the Prinz Gallery in Kyoto (Japan) in 2001, Garash in Mexico City (2003), at the Mehr Gallery in New York City (2007) and institutions such as The Leon Trotsky House Museum in Mexico City (1997).
Her latest work, "Isolated 2007" (Aislado 2007) is a reflection on solitude and won her the first prize in the Generación 2008 contest as well as a place at the forefront of the young Spanish artistic scene. Hisae collaborated with artist Joseph Kosuth for the Located Word project at La Casa Encendida, which consisted in thinking of an artistic work for another artist to execute.
In "Lost and Found" (Objetos perdidos) Hisae will combine installations with sculpture and drawings, using for this a variety of materials: from hinges and wood screws to coloured paper.
Hisae assembles furniture, paints and glues coloured paper skilfully to create peaceful environments whilst trying to maintain a certain feeling of uncertainty in the messages.
The objects used to create many of her works form a universal meaning; the artist enjoys playing with their presence and recreating what these objects emit.
