FORMATO CÓMODO
"SACRIFICE" by OMAR MAHFOUDI

Omar Mahfoudi (Tangier 1981) grew up in the Medina of Tangier, where he learned to paint. Since then, he has exposed his works in Tétouan, Marrakech, Casablanca and now he arrives in Madrid to present his work for the first time. The artist recreates the atmosphere of current Tangier. With his painting he shows us characters captured in fabrics and paper predominated by a blood-red colour and the humanity of the half man-half beast creatures.

In the videos, which play an important role in the exhibition, he starts by giving us an overview of one of the traditions of the Moroccan people involving sacrifice and, in another video, explores deeper to give us a more particular vision: a café in the Medina where he tells the day-to-day life of the people who frequent the sailor's café. Trance acts as a personal self-portrait. Omar belongs to a generation of artists that regain their freedom of speech.

Enigmatic and sometimes secretive, he strolls along the Medina and it seems that sometimes he is looking far away and has his mind in different place.

QUOTES FROM THE VIDEOS.

Take your money out of the bank...! We are in a crisis!

Anyway, capitalism is a sin.

THE PROPHECY.

There are millions of types of comedies and each has its own theatre, each one has its own story but I do like Taher Boufrakech because I believe that true comedy is to give every person in the world 100,000 dollars, and everyone will lead a dangerous life of happiness. That's true comedy for me, when you give everyone 100,000 dollars they will all be happy day and night. That's my kind of comedy, but the other comedians can make their own comedy. The end is here, and the most important thing is to bring the respect of the true man, of how we used to be. We used to be respectful men, now we're not.

Why? What happened?

Who is the criminal?

Back then I was a Muslim, at the time I was a Muslim fighting for a Palestine free from Israel and a free Israel without Palestine. In those new times I had a study done to know who I was and and I used to be a black African Adam and that I later turned white.
There is no hypocrisy on TV because the TV and the whole world are listening. You cannot tell lies on TV. On TV YOU HAVE TO TELL THE TRUTH, or you won't be allowed on, you cannot lie to the media - THE TV IS AN ANGEL - IT'S THE HOUSE OF GOD. All spy cameras are houses of God, you cannot lie, you cannot give out false information on TV. You cannot.

A Believer in God never lies.
