METRIC and malformations of Hisae Ikenaga 

In this second solo exhibition at the gallery Hisae Ikenaga Convenient Format (Mexico City 1977) presents two series one: "Metric System" intended to reflect on how each uses its own methods for measuring surfaces.  Proposed measure distances, areas, volumes and. time with their works: "pool-basketball" and "bar" showcase "  A second series: "malformation of manufactures is the result of previous work and his fascination with objects and what she calls her works in congenital ailments that manifest in his works:" Book Siamese "and" Sofa "

SERIES: "Football Field Metric System" 

The series was born of a common reflection on what it is read or heard in the media references to sports playing fields when measuring large surfaces. Most such references are sometimes used to try to facilitate the reader or listener vast expanses measurement, when in reality the effect is achieved is, as we shall see, the opposite, resulting in continual mistakes and inaccuracies when using these measurement references. 

Thus, for example is not uncommon to hear expressions like ’the fire-damaged area is proportional to five football fields ". However, they are very different dimensions of a full stadium than simply playing field. 

But ... Do you really know how big a football field? There are variations of tens of meters between each other’s playgrounds, no get out of regulatory measures. The maximum size is 120 x 90mts. and the minimum is 90x 45mts. 

Thus, I propose works based on measuring distances, areas, volumes, time, etc.. using as a benchmark of soccer fields and other objects. 

The first project of this nature is ¨ ¨-basketball pool, which was to measure a pool using a regulation basketball court. This pool is smaller than a regulation course basketball, representing only 11.9% of its surface. To circumvent the measure, put a basketball in one end of the pool and painted the lines on the track. The record is a series of photographs of two basketball players making use of that basket. 

Another project is to measure the volume of a fridge cabinet. The measurement system shall wigs that fit within the fridge cabinet. The record of this action would consist in providing an affidavit in which he would specify the number of wigs made. The result would be to place the empty fridge in the affidavit.

In her second solo exhibition at Galería Formato Cómodo Hisae Ikenaga (Mexico City 1977) presents two new series. One, entitled "Metric System" (Sistema métrico), which reflects on how each individual uses their own methods to measure surfaces. The artist suggests measuring distance, surfaces, volume and time with her works: "pool-basketball" (piscina-baloncesto) and "fridge-cabinet" (nevera-vitrina). Her second series "Manufacturing Flaws" (Malformaciones de Fábrica) stems from previous works and from her fascination with objects and with what she refers to in her works as "Congenital Ailments" (Males Conégnitos) that comes to light in "Siamese Book" (Libro Siamés) and "Sofa" (Sofá).

SERIES: "Football Field Metric System" (Sistema Métrico Campo de Fútbol) stems from a reflection on how common it is to read or hear references to sports fields when measuring large surfaces in the media. Most such references are used to try to facilitate the measurement of vast surfaces to the reader or listener, when in reality the effect it has is, as we shall see, the opposite, resulting in continued mistakes and inaccuracies when using these measurement references. Thus, it is not uncommon to hear expressions like "the area damaged by the fire is proportional to five football stadiums." However, the dimensions of a full football stadium are quite different from those of a simple field. But... Do we really know how big a football field is? The difference between one field and another could be of several metres, staying within the standard measurements. The maximum size for a football field is 120 by 90 metres, and the minimum is 90 by 45 metres. Thus, my works consist on measuring distance, areas, volume, time, etc. by using football fields and other objects as a reference.


The first project of this nature is "swimming pool-basketball ", and it consisted of measuring a pool using a standard basketball court. The pool is smaller than a standard basketball court, as it represents only 11.9% of its surface. To highlight this measurement, I put a basketball hoop at one end of the pool and painted the court's lines. The result is a series of photographs of two basketball players using the hoop.


Another project involves measuring the volume of a fridge-cabinet. The measurement system will be the number of wigs that can be stored inside said fridge-cabinet. This action will be recorded by the granting of a notarial deed in which the number of wigs placed inside the fridge-cabinet would be specified. The result would be to place the deed inside the empty fridge.
